MEET DUTCH

New Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community

Bernd "Dutch" Deblouw was born in The Netherlands, also known as Holland. Some people might be more familiar with it's capital Amsterdam.

After graduating College with a business degree and serving as a missionary with Mercy ships (www.mercyships.org) he moved to New Boston, Tx. Where he ran a computer service company. He also served as a faithful member of the New Boston Volunteer Fire Department.

In 2011 Dutch was hired by the Longview Fire Department and he moved to Longview. and shortly thereafter met his Beautiful wife Jennifer, Due to changes in his life he decided to not continue employment with the Longview Fire Department and served as a volunteer with another fire district.

Dutch has several years experience as a Finance manager for organizations, and also has been trained a an accredited financial counselor, helping people manage their finances and financial goals.

Dutch is the owner of Longview IT (www.longviewit.com) a Small/Medium business IT support company, his company focusses on supporting small to medium sized business's IT infrastructure and devices.

The Last 6 years Dutch has served the city in multiple capacities, starting as an alternate board member for the ZBA (zoning board of adjustment) and eventually chairing the board as its president. Before being move the the P&Z commission.

Dutch has proven that he is not afraid to make the hard choices and take all things into consideration, not just the immediate effect it has today

A few small successes he has enjoyed in his tenure on the boards:

- In 2019 Dutch was one of two members to deny a ZBA variance, the approval would have meant one particular company would have had an unfair market position in Longview, and the city would have been stuck with oversized digital billboards that would have been impossible to get removed in the future due to the variance. Instead of the variance, the matter was brought to council, they adapted the codes and now there is a clear path for digital signage that helps clean up the city's skyline and sets limits on size and location of digital billboards.

- in 2022 during a P&Z meeting it became clear that a business owner would need to provide sidewalks during their remodel/expansion project to conform with the UDC code.  Dutch brought it to the city's attention that the Fire station next door (one of the ones he used to work at) did not have sidewalks. His position was, that if we enforce the UDC on the constituents, we as a city need to do our part and set the example in development of these things. After the meeting the city agreed that they should and would. and soon the sidewalk will be installed.
